A young man speaking to an older man while they're both sat on a bench. The young man is facing the camera and has short black hair and is wearing a brown jacket. The older man has short brown hair, is wearing glasses and a back puffa jacket.

Josh experienced paranoid ideas that led him to be admitted to the hospital.

He feels his time in the hospital helped him to get better, one thing he mentioned of particular importance at the time was that he started eating regular meals.

On discharge he worked with his local early intervention service, Josh says it was a ‘huge relief’ to understand his symptoms, and if he now gets any ‘strange thoughts’ he can challenge them

All of a sudden it was like someone had turned a switch and Josh had suddenly got these horrendous paranoid feelings… any parent will tell you this, you would lay your life down for your child, if only you could take the pain away.

Watch Josh’s story

Watch Josh’s story which was filmed by Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust.

The East of England Clinical Network (Mental Health) has developed two short films to raise young people’s awareness of psychosis.

The films are based on young people’s journeys through psychosis. Josh and Fabi describe their symptoms and talk about the support they received along their respective roads to recovery.

The films were created to help young people identify symptoms of psychosis and where to go for help from primary care and the early intervention in psychosis team if they or someone they know experiences a first episode of psychosis.
